my good friends are in great bands and made great records.

hey all, i just wanted to stop by and drop a line about some amazing records that came out last month....
my good friends in New Tomorrow from san luis obispo Ca released their new full length "we're counting on the youth"... and i must say its my favorite hardcore record of the year. their songs are inspired and inspiring, positive hardcore for the young and old alike. they are DIY and i love them. if there were more bands like this the world might actually become a better place.
....and the hardest working band in showbiz hailing from Kansas City Missouri, the architects have released "the hard way", my favorite rock n roll record of the year. i throw down the gauntlet and say the architects are the best live band i have ever seen, the first time we met they rocked the saint in asbury park like it was a sold out MSG show. they are on the warped tour all summer and deserve more attention than you can give them. the hard way is a fucking gem and will be the record you listen to while being chased by police on your way to the mexican border.
bands like new tomorrow and the architects dont come around every day and are the reason i started skeleton crew. i feel very lucky to have worked with these bands, they are hard working and talented and deserve way more than i can provide. i hope you enjoy their records as much as i do.
New Tomorrow - "We're counting on the Youth" and the Architects - "The Hard Way" are available at stores and on itunes, or from the skeleton crew webstore (www.skeletoncrewonline.com)
both bands will be on the road this summer, enjoi. xo

Keep it secret, keep it safe

Sorry about my recent lack-of-blogging. We have been trapped inside of an honest to goodness rock and roll vortex. These past few weeks, we have been hammering away at our fourth album in a "secret" "underground" "subterranean" studio. Part of me wants to spill all the details, song titles, subliminal messages, blazing solos etc etc but that would be no fun at all. Where's your sense of adventure? I think that if you wait just a little bit longer that you'll thank me for it in the end. Just a little bit longer..

Quick studio update

Sorry for the lack of updates, but it actually is a good thing, because we've been crazy busy. I think we are almost finished with the greatest song we've ever written. Its coming along incredibly (is that even a word?) and I think it will be the standard for every other track on the record. In a way, this is really helpful, because now we can make each song the best it can be, in a sense taking each song as its own entity and reaching for the stars with each track.

Weekend off, so getting some much needed rest and thinking about how to make what we have even better. You guys are in for a treat...

Tracking continues...

After a few days of tracking guitars and bass, G has moved on to vocals for a few songs. Everything is turning out great. Me, Frank, Tom the engineer, and Peter and Kevin, the assistants, spent a few late nights getting great tones and having a lot of fun playing.

While G is doing vocals, me and Mikey are watching Frank play Fallout 3. He somehow ended up completely by accident creating a character who looks exactly like the guy who played Truman Capote in the movie that WASN'T "Capote." I've attached a picture of him...

I think Frank is about to smash some guy's head in with a tire iron...

Day off...

After 5 (6?) great days at the studio, we got a day off today. Bob flew through the drum tracks, and we move on to guitars, bass and vocals Thursday. We have a few more songs to finish up, but Bob has tracked the songs where the arrangements are more set in stone first, so we can get moving on them and then return to the songs that are in a more unfinished state later this month.

I can't say enough how happy I am with the band. The roughs sound UNBELIEVABLE, its crazy to me how much better and tighter as a band we've gotten. It makes me feel really good in the age of "digital performers" that we could go in and track live and still have it sound amazing...

What else is going on...Been having a great time with my Palm Pre. I know I was supposed to write a review, but honestly don't have the time for it. I guess my quick review is that its an amazing device, with a few shortcomings. Small shortcomings mind you, I've been having a lot of fun on it and can't wait to see what else the team at Palm have in store...

Oh and Ghostbusters came out! I played a little last night before bed, I kept getting slimed! Its a lot of fun busting ghosts, but damn't Venkman why do you have to keep blasting me?! Kudos to everyone involved with this game, as it really plays out like a sequel to the films. Its still crazy to me that nearly the entire cast got together for a VIDEO GAME. Awesome stuff...

Track Day #3

Day 3 of tracking. Things are still motoring along. Bob is playing great, so we're continuing the fast pace. Great vibe here at the studio, Brendan is a lot of fun to work with, and is very focused and energetic. Rest of the band is playing great too. The time in rehearsals really paid off, as we're getting a good idea of what songs will sound like when the rest of tracking is done. Off to enjoy a frosty Cola!
